3:31 pm
they're leading to several cancers including prostrate and a luke and cancers and more and more things are being found in those chemicals and all sorts of problems miss carriage and loss sperm count and distractions and you've heard how important this is. and why are they using city parks to restore somethings that's negative. it's something which somebody declared to be nature which presumably has been grown here 1 hundred years why not 5 hundred why not many years ago.
3:32 pm
herb acids are toxic and more toxic by the nature areas has increased and dramaticly since the 2009. i gave my chat so i don't know remember it's 5 times more than it was before and complaining about it i pay a number on this no's they told you oh, according t the manufacturer it is save and the courts upheld the federal and state find for the attorneys it's not by any stretch of the illness as safe as table salt. it's clarified as tier two and

3:34 pm
platelets that are every were and they contain denying seen and all kinds of carbons and now flame retardants what's good for a satire is not good for a child. there's no such thing asia acceptable lead for children. i'm so tired of read into the record quote-unquote is product it safe only to find out the product was funded by the industry. we know you have the talent pool to do better and things we're exposed to everyday like synthetic playing fields have begun un plaza tested in aggregate. for me and many of us today,
3:35 pm
this is simply not acceptable. there is nothing more important than protecting the health of our children and generations to come and no one's profit margin can justify profit for future generations >> bailey's and her supporters are pushing to put safety ahead of property. alex cbs news >> jennifer your meeting with the members of congress. >> the rates of asthma and all kinds of which would illness that have gone up. >> there was rubber that was put in there's a fill of refurbished tires that carry are

carried by california. somehow children are thinking it's okay to play on >> you mentioned the existing law is because the united states has never followed the precautionary rules. >> there's bipartisan groups but 0 no one's profit margin can justify harming children. >> thank you. this is the same material that's been used at many levies like a hundred thousand tons of this stuff. >> thank you. >> thank you. next speaker, please. >> good morning. i'm ronnie represent the forest alliance and have lived in san francisco

for 40 years between market street davg and i'd like to make a statement and use the overhead for one item or two. is that viewable. i generally am speaking after the natives that are involved in the control of the san francisco rec and park department. natives are not the only stakeholder in our parks, however, the native area program includes everyone but them the reason i say that their quin and using the parks as an excuse taking the popular prognosticated we saw how wonderful the parks are to go in
3:38 pm
and saying this go background needs renovation elizabeth's other areas get december mat this year this is the children's tree in grand canyon park this is a climbing tree kids love to play on and there's no reason this should have been taken down it's not an invasive tree. there are stakeholders that the rec department needs to know about including myself i love the nature getting into out symbol parks we love to see the keeping you informed oats and there's rock clifrmz and people experiencing. get out into nature. all of this should be included
3:39 pm
in the plan that the native area program is a part of. and to make the alternatives and grand canyon is being having the trails widened and including the favorite tree the commission needs to know this is a unique and special wildlife area and what's being done to it. to create we'd patches is the way of it instead of trees >> thank you. >> and the last speaker card is for linda. >> there we go. >> hi. when you said linda i didn't
3:40 pm

this is actively a remodel of a ancient and rusty prognosticated. this is the slide. where we are on attendance. year to date we're 9 thousand 20th century 2 hundred over projections. our prognosticated opens this subpoenaed and wool have a members productive in the morning of november 24th i want to thank our general manager whose going to inaugurate our banners. so your major donors have a chance to play on saturday. we light up the zoo last year,
3:43 pm
we do the it for a week and this year we're to do it through the weekends. in terms of the animal updates oh, no let me talk about the playground. we want to emphasize there are frogs and turtles all kinds and as a reminder it's 3 zones and the next slide we have a parlor cap those are for kids have to 8. this is a gentle reminder to have the kids reunite. on the left we have a river play area for the toddlers. there's some messaging will
3:44 pm
water conservatism on the right is for the elder children and this is for a bit of risk-taking we have other things for the disabled. this is a remodel of the eleanor friend playground that's been there roughly 29 years and we had a $3 million face lift now the animal updates. those are not pigs although they look like that this is a south american wild boar. we only knew of them as fossils. i'm happy to report we now have 6. they don't care who their mother
3:45 pm
is and they'll nurse on all the mothers. also on animal news. the big guerilla is there and her grandchild is there. just this week we introduced grandma to the baby. the mother had not taken over nursing. this is quite credible she feeds the baby with the bottle she takes a sip first and they've been together w about 48 hours. she's the main mat relic of the herd so they leave her loan. okay. and then i have lastly.
3:46 pm
this sunday people mint and bell arrive to inaugurate our playground and savnt will be here and i need to thank moisture airport who donated pumpkins >> there any public comment on this item. seeing none, public comment is closed. we are now on item 7 which is the san francisco children's and nature forum san francisco children's outdoors bill of rights. >> hi, good morning. i'm xoiftd this is my first time here so
3:47 pm
good morning. i'm here to speak on behalf of the san francisco children's bill of rights. this highlights our development. so thanks to you on behalf of this measure for your support. i manage an jewelry categorically program. for the last 15 years this program has given san francisco youth a be hands on shooerp. last we served 8 hundred and 50 thousand students from 39 organizations working and learning in the parks. this year we've received thirty plagues and began emergency room with our students.
3:48 pm
you might wondering wonder what this is it's a project for the nature forum. the forum is a board coalition of organizations collaborating to inspire agencies such a our department to connect young san franciscans to europe nature and i recommended those. our department through the ymca program helps us to experience 7 bill of rights. this is the result of two years of community consensus promote in english and chooibz and spanish for other organizations and environment. the bill of rights is a set of experiences in which every child has the right to harvest a fruit or very many and plant a seed and watch it grow and visit and
3:49 pm
care for our local parked and play in the sand or in mud, discover upper wildlife and the trees and plant. so describing this a third grade student sums it up you taught me how to get adopt and dirty i will start in my background and traffic the world. so with the commissioners endorsement we promote the san francisco youth to explore the nature. i want to introduce a member from the presidio steering committee and he's to talk about the committee do you want all those folks to continue standing behind you? forever >> forever?
3:50 pm
(laughter) >> okay. thanks san francisco i didn't. good morning, commissioners and a quick shout out to all the kids and colleagues in the highway that were here to support this initiative. just a quick show of hands how many of you grew up in on a urban area? okay. great. how many of you are raising or have raised children in an urban area? okay. great. and how many of you are kids growing n up in on a urban area. kids which all ages here. i just wanted to give you a quick back story of how we came to this moment in the history of our city. it was back in 2005 that i
3:51 pm
statewide collaborative called the round table of parks and tourism came and collaborated in the bill of rights. in the past 8 years there's been more than 25 other states and a cities to create they were version. also what happens happened in the is last 8 years we hit a big landmark in our history back in 2007 when most human beings live in cities that do you want. it was last month that the city of ontario created their own charter and we've come up with a outdoor brtd that's most relevant. what can kids growing up in this place we call san francisco experience. so the forum that san francisco
3:52 pm
i didn't mentioned came together 2 years ago it represent a collaborative of pediatricians and form and inare formal educators and other parks people. we are addressing several questions. what can be done to protect a child rooted in nature and how do we make visual a child's right to see nature and what policies are connecting families with nature. so this initiative is now before you. i want to speak on behalf of many folks who are working for the park lapd's. so on behalf of parks and presidio trust we join rec and park as clearly the leader so we can work as a community i want to pass out drafts which is in 3
3:53 pm
languages. we want to achieve the endorsements the rec and park logo would be in the blue area but the role out would happen in the springtime. i want to end with a short quote by a former child growing up in san francisco. i exported every foot of the valley thoounl u stoounl through the thick brush and following the clay before it met the pacific. i traced who i am to those years of growing up in our house on the dunes adams. thank you for your time >> commissioners we have several cards for comment.
3:54 pm
we do have public comment. so (calling names) you can come up in any order. >> hi, i'm sally i'm with sf dog. i want to say i went to the website the rec and park website to find information on what this bill of rights was and there was nothing on the website. all i got was the agenda under the spring documents is i went online and it's getting children outside. it is official listing to make that happen. there is a very broad way of outdoor play and connecting kids with nature my that's kids who walk with their dogs in the city parks. there is no program needed for
3:55 pm
this. it basically hits kids from every ethic level. i want to say the dog community has innovate been involved in the consensus they talk about like for example, i had to do a google search to find out. so i encourage everyone to work together and i'm happy to talk about that. it's important for kids to walk and a play outside to connect with nature and walking and playing with a dog is a good way. if it's too strike your denying the access to the kids that are now getting it. use this outdoors bill of rights to protect children who walk
3:56 pm
their dogs. urge you to not deny what constitutes outdoor play and for kids this is for walking and playing with the family dog >> thank you. >> thank you. next speaker, please. >> thank you. i'm here to help our children grew up and athletic and at the same time their ingesting chemicals that will show up later in their lives >> according to the cdc one in every three children now are ingesting chemicals. what we know about the chemicals the answer is we have no information at all
3:57 pm
>> - you've got to wait. >> young children are dpoersz a whole bunch of chemicals. the reason with your concerned about the artifical tomb we're xoers the children to 0 concentrated all convinces irritant their carr geography and those materials it's important to know they were not made to be used by children. >> times of sensitivity and the children are exposed to toxic chemicals and children have a longer than in which to develop disease. it did that with lead and
3:58 pm
poisoned you thousand of children for nearly 75 years. we have to think that about. what is good for a tire is not good for a child. repeat after me. there's no such thing as an acceptable amount of led for children. >> we know that the lead gets into the child's body and stays there. >> we're very concerned about the poly carbons p those are chemicals that are known for cancer. >> so if you put an infamous blanket on the ground they're going to be exposed more. >> we know this sdrurpts this
3:59 pm
future of an entire child. neurotoxic and receptor toxic risks if i put which were on on a athletic field it's not good. we've seen this with exposure during presidency >> we're not going to let our young ones play on fields that could harm them. >> thank you. (calling names) we - ron is this for years. >> ann stash is moving her car.
4:00 pm
>> it's ron then. carolyn is on here later. ron if you will step up. is this for you >> it's not. >> let's hold back and as soon as i put it on they'll put it on the overhead. >> good morning, commissioners aim ron proctor i want to make a comment or two. first of all, i support the children's bill of rights it's important it's advanced with a clarificati clarification. they have a list of items one of which they climb a tree this tree is gone
